Disney has announced the opening date for the new version to the popular Soarin’ Attraction at Disney California Adventure.
First announced at the 2015 D23 Expo, Soarin’ Around the World will open on June 17, 2016. The current, and first version of Soarin’, Soarin’ Over California, first opened as an original Disney’s California Adventure attraction in 2001. The attraction proved to be one of the most popular in the park and has since been cloned for EPCOT at Walt Disney World. EPCOT will also be receiving the new version of Soarin’ this summer, as well as at Shanghai Disneyland. In Shanghai the attraction will go by the name Soaring Over the Horizon.
The new film was shot around the world at various well known landmark locations, such as The Great Wall of China, the Great Pyramids of Egypt and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The attraction will remain very similar to the current form, with the attraction’s well known mechanics, motion and scents. During the ride, guests will be lifted 40 feet high into the 80-foot projection dome. Disney has already upgraded the projectors at Disney California Adventure to a new HD, laser-projected digital system, which will allow the new film to be shown in a whole new level of detail. Soarin’ Around the World will also feature a new musical score. Composed by Bruce Broughton and based on the original attraction score, the new music for Soarin’ was performed by the London Studio Orchestra.
Soarin’ Around the World will be located in Grizzly Peak Airfield at Disney California Adventure.
