Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts took to the stage on day two of the 2015 D23 Expo to share some exciting news of upcoming projects from around the Disney Resorts. Among the large new makers of Pandora: The World of Avatar, Shanghai Disneyland, and the mega story Star Wars Land, Bob also announced that the Disney California Adventure park original attraction, Soarin’ Over California, would also receive a big update.
The long rumored update began to take shape earlier this year when Condor Flats was quietly closed and transformed into the beautiful Grizzly Peak Airfield. When the area reopened the title sign of the attraction was changed to the simple word Soarin’ with an easily changeable extension expressing the “…over California“. This further fueled speculation of an update. It was during that update that the popular flight simulating attraction also received a digital projection and sound upgrade.
Starting in 2016, Soarin’ Over California will become Soarin’ Around the World. Guests will fly over such iconic destinations such as Monument Valley and the Great Wall of China.
