Oswald the Lucky Rabbit will begin to make appearances on Buena Vista Street at Disney California starting September 14, 2014!
Oswald was one of Walt Disney’s earliest cartoon creations. Walt created 26 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon shorts beginning in 1927 before the rights to the character were basically taken over from his control in 1928. The event forced Walt to create a new character, one which he would protect better, Mickey Mouse.
The rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was secured by Disney in 2006 through a separate deal and after more than 80 years, Walt’s creation was back where it was intended to be. Tokyo DisneySea was the first Disney Park to see Oswald Meet and Greets earlier this year. Buena Vista Street, which celebrates Walt Disney’s optimistic arrive in Los Angeles, is the perfect location for one of his earliest creations. The 1920’s inspired street also features the Red Car Trolley, a possible tie-in to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit’s first cartoon, “Trolley Troubles”. Oswald merchandise has already been a staple of the area and his namesake even appears on an ice cream sundae served on Buena Vista Street.
