Welcome Back to the Disneyland Resort!
The Holiday Season is upon us and both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure are celebrating the Christmas season with decor, music, special entertainment, foods, merchandise, ride overlays and more!
Over the next few weeks I’ll be visiting the resort to photograph and share with all of you the magic of the Holiday season at the Disneyland Resort! There’s a lot to cover. This week we take a look at Buena Vista Street, Cars Land, and Main Street USA during the day, the expanded Jingle Cruise overlay, and “it’s a small world” Holiday. And this week I have a special surprise for you, a visit to Universal Studios Hollywood to see the progress of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
Unlike last year’s subtle debut of the Jingle Cruise holiday overlay, the 2014 version has added quite a bit. The Jungle Cruise received its first holiday overlay in 2013, it was subtle and nearly all of the Christmas decorations were seen in the boathouse and on the boats themselves. A new spiel with holiday jokes also debuted. For the 2013 Jingle Cruise it was said that the skippers were hoping to share some holiday joy with everyone.
The Jingle Cruise was well received by most guests in 2013, however one of the criticisms was the perceived lack of decorations by some. Not only does it appear that Disney management heard those who shared that input, but agreed. This year the decorations are everywhere. Nearly every scene has holiday decorations and icons scattered throughout. Some of the jokes in the spiel remain the same, with quite a few fruitcake references thrown in – apparently someone in WDI really despises fruitcake.
Just as in 2013, the Jingle Cruise is already receiving mixed reviews. Those who found last year’s version too subtle will undoubtably enjoy this year’s, and those who appreciated the subtly of the previous version will probably view the 2014 iteration as “tacky” and “over-the-top”. Either way the Jingle Cruise is here to stay and bolstered a 45-minute wait time when I captured these photos Monday morning.
“it’s a small world” Holiday
The classic “it’s a small world” Holiday is now open for the season. A few changes have been made, most notably the addition of a new Feliz Navidad gateway sign.
Buena Vista Street
Buena Vista Street is my personal favorite spot for the Holiday season. The Community Bell Ringers have returned and some snowflake lamppost lights have been added for this year.
Around the Resort
Some “under the sea” inspired garland has been added to the exterior of the Little Mermaid Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.
A great new line of vintage style Disneyland holiday merchandise has appeared throughout the resort. We’ll bring more photos of these in the coming weeks.
Olaf’s Ice Rink and the Downtown Disney Winter Village have returned.
I took a very rare trip to Universal Studios Hollywood this past weekend, and I thought it would be nice to share with you the construction progress for the highly anticipated west coast debut of “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter”. The Hollywood version of this Orlando hit is set for a 2016 opening.
Universal Studios Hollywood has a few well themed environments, including this area of a French street and courtyard.
