Welcome back to the Disneyland Resort!

We’re back! I know it’s been a while since our last Disneyland Photo Report and we have a big one for you today. The summer is coming to a close, but even as Halloween Time is beginning to creep in, the 60th Anniversary rolls on.

Disneyland released details about Halloween Time 2015 and just how the extended dates of Mickey’s Halloween Party would tie in with the new 60th Anniversary fireworks and parade. We break it all down for you here.

We will also take one of a few planed trips for future photo reports into Big Thunder Ranch. This area along the Big Thunder Trail will close in the near future to begin a multi-year long construction project. When the area reopens it will house the entrance to Star Wars Land. In this Photo Report we visit Miss Chris’ Cabin.

Main Street USA

Main Street USA is beginning to receive it’s transformation for Halloween Time. Soon the blue and white 60th Anniversary bunting will be replaced with the yellow and orange Halloween Time bunting. Some of the Halloween decor has already begun to arrive in the Candy Palace and merchandise is on the shelves at the China Closet. Typically the Disney Showcase is turned into Halloween merchandise central, but this year it appears it will remain a shop for all things 60th Anniversary.

Tomorrowland

In Tomorrowland work continues on the transformation of Innoventions into Star Wars Launch Bay and the expanded Marvel meet and greet. Space Mountain is getting ready for a brief closure to facilitate the installation of Ghost Galaxy, and a newly themed popcorn cart arrived.

The bottom floor of Innovnetions is being converted into Star Wars Launch Bay, while the top floor will house an expanded Marvel Universe meet and greet. While guests can still meet Marvel characters one-by-one across from Innoventions, they lack the heavily themed environment that was available inside Innoventions. No opening date has been announced for Innoventions (which will most likely also receive a name change). You can track all closures on our Disneyland Resort Closures Page.

Across the way, a new Tomorrowland popcorn cart popped up this week. The cart has the classic Tomorrowland spires and a new astronaut figurine.

Space Mountain is set for a four day scheduled closure. The attraction will be closed September 7 – 10th for installation of Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.

Frontierland

Big Thunder Trail and the Ranch are both getting ready for a major change. The area will close in the coming months to become the new entrance to Star Wars Land. The new land, announced at the recent D23 Expo will begin construction sometime in 2016. For this photo report we spend sometime at Miss Chris’ Cabin in Big Thunder Ranch.

If you spend sometime looking around the cabin you’ll find several ribbons from various county fair’s, including this one for “First Award, Draft Horse” from the LA County Fair in 1979.

In a corner there’s a cabinet full of these ribbons, here are a few the Disneyland horses have been awarded over the years from various fairs throughout California.

This time of year is one of the best to visit this area. Miss Chris’ Cabin typically houses various events throughout the coming holiday’s. It use to be the location to meet with Santa Claus during the Holiday’s and is typically turned into the Scare-Dy-Crow Shack during Halloween Time. Although for 2015 this area could remain untouched as Disneyland has already stated that the nearby Halloween Carnival will not be held this year. We will know for sure in the coming weeks. This maybe the last time for guests to walk through Miss Chris’ Cabin before the area closes for good. On your next trip, take a minute or two to walk through.

New Orleans Square

Over in New Orleans Square the Haunted Mansion has already closed for it’s transformation into the Haunted Mansion Holiday. The attraction will re-open for Halloween Time and the following Holiday’s beginning September 11, 2015.

Pirates of the Caribbean is scheduled for a closure later this month

Deep in New Orleans Square it appears management is trying to stop the ordinary guests from peeking through the gates which separate them from the beloved Court of Angels and the Club 33 members who are on the other side. It’s not uncommon to see guests peering through to get a glimpse of what they can no longer enjoy. Some strategically located potted plants were placed just far enough away to discourage guests from doing so.

It’s a sad thing that’s happening here, further pouring salt into the wounds for some guests like myself.

The photo below is from our archives and was included in our July 2014 Disneyland Photo Report

Disney California Adventure

The Paradise Pier boardwalk is slowly being replaced. The replaced sections look fantastic!

Old section, not yet replaced.

Replaced section

The entire boardwalk along the shops and midway games has been replaced.

Not much is visible at the former Luigi’s Flying Tires attraction. The ride closed in February for it’s transformation into a new attraction, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

A new film and name was also announced for Soarin’ Over California at the recent D23 Expo. We expect Soarin’ to close around the first of the year to receive it’s new name and film. The ride will become Soarin’ Around the World and will feature a film that takes guests to places such as the Great Wall of China and Monument Valley.

Make sure you get your final rides in on the classic version of Soarin’ now before it closes for good in the next few months.

That should do it for this Disneyland Photo Report. Be sure to keep and eye on the blog and our social media accounts listed below for breaking news throughout the week.
