We have a few 2014 Halloween Time announcements coming out today.
First up is a sneak peek at the annual Haunted Mansion Holiday Gingerbread House. Each year the Disneyland Resort confectionists create a very large, and real, gingerbread house for display inside the Haunted Mansion Holiday ballroom. Each design is different and typically has a few special features.
The 2014 gingerbread house:
Here is a description of the 2014 gingerbread house from an interview posted in the Parks Blog with graphic artist and sculptor Tim Wollweber:
This year’s creation is based on an iron maiden torture device from the Middle Ages, says Wollweber. “It was basically a large, coffin-like box with spikes on the inside, and any person forced to stand inside would get uncomfortable very fast.”
Of course, the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house adds a little whimsy with a hapless gingerbread zombie trapped inside – and those frightening spikes are very sharp, red-and-white candy canes. The gingerbread house also will feature opening and closing doors and lights.
it takes 3 weeks to make this 7 foot-tall creation which consists of 200 pounds of gingerbread, 200 pounds of royal icing, and 150 pounds of fondant.
Also in the Halloween Time news this morning, Disney officially announced that Mickey’s Cavalcade, part of the special ticket event Mickey’s Halloween Party, will be preceded by a Frozen float. The float was introduced in June as a pre-parade for Mickey’s Soundsational Parade and features Anna, Elsa and Olaf from Disney’s Frozen.
Also during each Mickey’s Halloween Party event, Disney villains, including Cruella De Vil, the Queen of Hearts, Judge Frollo and Lady Tremaine, will be arriving in Town Square via a black horse-drawn carriage.
