Disneyland Photo Report for June 24, 2014

Welcome back to the Disneyland Resort.

The summer crowds are beginning to show, and with two major “E-Ticket” attractions closed for summer refurbishments the wait times at other attractions are being impacted. The Disneyland Resort is coasting through 2014 with not much in the way of news and events. In this Disneyland Photo Report we’ll visit the various refurbishment projects: Space Mountain, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage and Alice in Wonderland. We’ll also take a look Around the Resort as requested by our Facebook Fans!

Summer is here!

Alice in Wonderland Refurbishment

The handrails that we’ve been seeing in previous Disneyland Photo Reports appear to have been removed from the external vine on Alice in Wonderland. This is great news and hopefully the area will remain open the way we see it this week. Although the vine is about twice as wide, it looks much better unobstructed. It will be interesting to see how it impacts the ride experience since guests will not be able see down as easily as before.

Alice in Wonderland was testing on Monday night and is currently scheduled for a July 4th reopening

Captain EO & Guardians of the Galaxy Preview

Captain EO is now closed. Disneyland is preparing the Magic Eye Theater for a preview of the upcoming Marvel Theatrical Release, Guardians of the Galaxy. As we shared with you last week, Captain EO will remain closed for the foreseeable future and Disney has not provided us with a reopening date. Disneyland management has stated that Captain EO is “expected to return at a later date”, however Tokyo Disney has announced their Captain EO Tribute will close for good at the end of June.

Disney removed the Captain EO Tribute sign early last week. The posters at the theater entrance and in the Main Street USA entrance tunnels remain … for now.

Space Mountain Refurbishment

Space Mountain remains closed through July 3rd. The exterior of the mountain is finally receiving a cleaning, as are the buildings adjacent to the attraction. These areas were literally turning black with filth after a few years of neglect.

Below are a few file photos which show you just how badly Space Mountain was in need of attention.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage

Work has finally seemed to pick up in the lagoon portion of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The attraction closed in January 2014 for a nearly year-long refurbishment. Rumors quickly began to circulate that Disneyland’s true plan was to close the attraction for good. However, since Disney officially announced the September 27th reopening, visible work has been picking up.

Grizzly River Run

Grizzly River Run has reopened! The attraction went down just before summer heated up; strange time to close a water ride. Monday heated into the high 80’s and the wait at Grizzly swelled past 60 minutes.
