The Disneyland Resort will kick off the 2014 Summer Season tomorrow with the “Rock Your DisneySide” 24-Hour Event. Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will be open for 24 hours beginning on Friday, May 23rd at 6:00 a.m.

2014 will be the third year in a row that Disneyland has hosted a 24-hour event. In 2012, the “One More Disney Day” event celebrated Leap Day and despite a few problems with overcrowding and having to close the park’s turnstiles for time, the event proved to be a wild success. It was such a success that Disney repeated the event in 2013 with “Monstrous Summer“.

Here are a few photos from the 2013 Monstrous Summer 24-hour event at the Disneyland Resort:

Disney learned many lessons from the 2012 event and the 2013 event seemed to go off without any major issues. For 2014 we expect Disney to pull off a great event. Already Disney has made many announcements regarding entertainment and food, which can be viewed in detail here

At the Disneyland Resort both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will be open. No special tickets are required beyond a park-hopper to visit both theme parks or a single park ticket to visit one. Annual Passports are valid with the exception of the SoCal Select Annual Passport. Blockout Tickets are no longer offered as of this past week’s ticket changes. SoCal Select Annual Passport holders will need to either upgrade to Deluxe or purchase that day’s admission.

Costumes

The big difference between the “Rock Your Disney Side” 24-hour event and the previous two is the inclusion of costumes! Disney is asking guests to show their “DisneySide” by dressing up!

Disney has also provided the following rules and regulations for guests costumes:

  • Costumes should be child-friendly and adhere to any guidelines determined by Disney.
  • Costumes should be child-friendly and adhere to any guidelines determined by Disney.

  • Masks may be worn, but they must not obstruct vision, and eyes must be visible at all times.
  • Guests who dress like Disney characters may not pose for pictures or sign autographs.

Disneyland has said that guests can begin lining up as early as mid-night on Thursday, May 22nd. Parking will be available to those who arrive before 5 a.m. on May 23rd at the Simba Lot. The Simba Parking Lot is located behind the Paradise Pier Hotel and is accessible by Disneyland Dr, north of Katella Ave.

Disney is making special incentives available to those who carpool with four or more guests per car.

  • All guests and Annual Passholders without pre-paid parking will receive a discounted parking rate of $8 (for a standard vehicle) when arriving with four or more passengers.
  • Annual Passholders with pre-paid parking will receive one voucher per vehicle for one free popcorn scoop and one bottled beverage, redeemable at any Disneyland or Disney California Adventure park outdoor vending cart. At least one passenger in the vehicle must be a valid Annual Passholder with pre-paid parking privileges.

How To Line Up In Advance

If lining up in advance is your thing, Disneyland management has set forth a few rules to help make everyone’s experience a fun one. Below you’ll find all the rules Disney posted to their blog as well as a great video which should help answer some of your questions. NOTE: The video does say no masks, however it was later clarified that masks are allowed as long as they “don’t obstruct your vision and your eyes are visible at all times”.

Pre-Opening Queue

  • No guests will be permitted to line up before 12 a.m. on May 23.
  • Guests may bring games, blankets, chairs, tents and sleeping bags, but chairs and tents must be returned to your car by 3 a.m. Blankets, sleeping bags and games may be stored in a locker.
  • At 3 a.m., all guests in line will be moved through Security checkpoints to the Disneyland Resort Esplanade, where the first 2,000 guests in line will receive exclusive, commemorative Rock Your Disney Side 24-Hour event lanyards.
  • No smoking, fighting or loud music will be allowed.
  • Disneyland Security and the Anaheim Police Department will be present throughout the night and into the next morning.
  • All guests in line will be able to temporarily leave the line to use the restroom, purchase food or beverages, and return or retrieve items from their vehicles/hotel rooms.

Also, beginning at 4 a.m. a DJ and surprise special appearances by “Disney Friends” will get the crowd ready. Disney will kick off the opening at 6 a.m. with a countdown accompanied by a quick burst of fireworks.

Entertainment & Special Menu Items

Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have special entertainment schedules which include DJ’s, Swing Dancing, a midnight running of Mickey’s Soundsational Parade and a 3:00 a.m. showing of World of Color! You can see the full entertainment schedule as well as all the special food and menu items in our previous article, “Entertainment for the DisneySide 24-Hour Event at the Disneyland Resort“.

In addition to what is listed in the previous article, Disney also recently announced a ‘World of Color’ Breakfast. Details for the breakfast at either the Wine Country Trattoria or Ariel’s Grotto can be viewed on the Disney Parks Blog here.

Disney also shared a preview of special “Rock Your Disney Side” merchandise for the event which can be viewed here.

Esplanade

When you make you make your arrival at the Disneyland Resort be sure to look for an 8-foot-tall, hand-crafted Olaf Sand Sculpture in the esplanade between the two theme parks. Also in the esplanade, guests can view an 8-foot by 8-foot chalk art of Mickey Mouse enjoying summer. The piece, created by artist Noah, will be donated to Autism Speaks for a charitable auction following the event.
