Welcome Back to the Disneyland Resort!
The 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon was held this past Sunday. Melissa Hernandez of Oxnard, Ca finished in first place with a time of 1:25:40, nearly two minutes ahead of the second place finisher. Each participant who crossed the finish line received a finisher medal, and thousands could be seen across both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure throughout Sunday.
Mickey’s Soundsational Parade returned to Disneyland this past weekend. “it’s a small world” joined the growing list of attractions which have closed for refurbishments. The Tiki Juice bar, popular for the Dole Whip, has also closed for an expansion. We also take a look at the progress on the Submarine Voyage refurbishment before taking a quick trip Around the Resort
2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon
With her first half-marathon win, Melissa Hernandez of Oxnard, CA, crossed the 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon finish line first with a time of 1:25:40. She was nearly two minutes ahead of the second place winner, Alyssa White (1:27:28) of Durham, NC. The third place winner was none other than the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon winner, Kellie Nickerson (1:28:58) of Albuquerque, NM.
Upon finishing, Melissa Hernandez said, “I had finished second in a few half marathons, but I had never won one and I had never run in a race this big before either, so this was really nice to win my first one here.”
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend also included a 10k, a 5k fun run, kids races, a health and fitness expo and more.
Health and Fitness Expo
The Health and Fitness Expo, held at the Disneyland Hotel Exhibit Hall, was once again a popular venue. The free event hosted vendors, speakers and merchandise from New Balance, Dannon, Lady Foot Locker and more.
The limited edition runDisney New Balance shoes proved very poplar again this year. Unfortunately there seemed to be no regulation on purchase amounts. Many people could be seen leaving the store with as many as 5 boxes of shoes. Shortly after the Health and Fitness Expo opened on Thursday the shoes could be seen on sites such as eBay selling upwards of five-times their retail price.
Mickey’s Soundsational Parade
With the Holiday season now behind us, Disneyland is returning to a regular entertainment schedule. Mickey’s Soundsational Parade returned this past weekend to a large crowd of onlookers. Strangely, Tinker Bell was missing from the parade.
We are truly in “refurbishment season” at the Disneyland Resort, and we have some updates for you below.
Haunted Mansion has reopened
The Holiday overlay has been removed, and the classic Haunted Mansion has returned. There are no major changes this year, and no, the Hatbox Ghost did not materialize.
Tiki Juice Bar
The Tiki Juice Bar which is famously known for the popular Dole Whip, has closed for an expansion. It is expected to reopen the first week of February.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Some of the rear construction walls have come down around Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Disneyland has yet to provide an official opening date, however the official online calendar only shows the attraction closed through the end of January 2014.
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
There has been little to no visible work on the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage since the attraction closed, fueling rumors that Disneyland may have plans to close the attraction.
Some facade work is now being done on the Fortuosity Shop on Main Street USA. The shops remain open.
New Orleans Square & Club 33 expansion
Last week we shared photos from the New Orleans Square, Club 33 expansion. Most of the area had been covered by tarps. This week, the French Market has been covered and a few more posters were hung in a effort to distract from their sad appearance.
With the Jingle Cruise overlay removed, the Jungle Cruise poster has been placed at the Disneyland entrance.
