As part of the 2013 Holiday Season at the Disneyland Resort and the release of the Disney Animated film Frozen, Disney California Adventure’s popular World of Color show has received a complete makeover.
Spearheaded by Steve Davison, Vice President of Parades and Spectaculars for Walt Disney, the entire World of Color presentation has been reworked and contains new music, animations, and special effects.
Olaf, the whimsical snowman from Disney’s Frozen, plays host to the crowd, and at one point leads guests in a singalong. The new Holiday version of World of Color also features guest created holiday cards and a new song entitled “Glow”. “Glow” was recorded entirely by an internet honor choir made up of Disney fans from across the world, a first for Disney, and a spectacular introduction to the new show.
Following a brief introduction from Olaf, the show begins with the beautiful new honor choir song, “Glow”. The honor choir is introduced and each performer is featured in a falling snowflake singing their part. “Glow” is being touted as an instant Holiday Disney theme park classic.
Disney installed thousands of new programable LED lights along the edges of both Mickey’s Fun Wheel and California Screamin’ attractions, creating a sparkling backdrop at times. Around the mid point of the show, the guest submitted holiday cards are projected on the large backdrop behind the California Screamin’ loop. Disney is also using a new snowflake creation technique which produces large, detailed snowflakes which fall across the audience.
World of Color Winter Dreams also features two songs from Disney’s Frozen, one performed by Elsa the Snow Queen and another by Olaf. Guests are also treated to scenes from Bambi, a Toy Story version of the Nutcracker Suite and more.
All together, World of Color Winter Dreams is a great addition to the Holiday line up of entertainment for the Disneyland Resort, and especially to that of Disney California Adventure. The addition of a Holiday specific night-time show to Disney California Adventure is a welcome one, and continues to show just how far Disneyland’s neighbor has come in the past few years. Also added this year at California Adventure, ¡Viva Navidad! and a special Christmas version of the Red Car Newsboys on Buena Vista Street.
These Holiday entertainment offerings are in addition to the traditional “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” and “Believe … In Holiday Magic” fireworks at Disneyland. Also added this year to Disneyland, an overlay to the Jungle Cruise, titled the “Jingle Cruise“.
If you have yet to see World of Color Winter Dreams and are planing to visit Disney California Adventure this holiday season, I highly recommend not watching any spoiler videos. However, if you can’t make it to the park, there are plenty of good videos already on youtube.
