Disneyland Photo Report for October 7, 2013

Welcome Back!

Halloween Time is in full swing at Disneyland, and despite a few refurbishments, a Limited Time Magic event and the 2013 Gay Days gathering, not too much happened this past week. Regular readers will notice that this week’s Disneyland Photo Report is a bit backwards. Were going to start with the “Around the Resort” section, then see some of the way Disneyland is supporting this year’s Gay Days gathering and end by visiting the Downtown Disney Chalk Art Festival where some amazing artists transformed the ground into beautiful works of art.

Around the Resort

Headed down Main Street USA, this past weekend was a warm one. Temperatures spiked into the 90 as we entered a Santa Ana wind event. For those not familiar with these winds, they are hot, extremely dry winds that blow out from the desert. On Friday, gusts were measured as high as 60mph. As a result, Friday’s Mickey Halloween Party exclusive Halloween Screams fireworks were canceled. Because the show had already been loaded at the time of cancelation, Saturday’s guests were treated to a surprise showing of Halloween Screams.

On Sunday, most of the winds had subsided, although the temperature remained above 90 degrees.

The Candy Palace facade is receiving some work. Typically Disneyland will place building refurbishments this large behind photo tarps (seen here with the Train Station in February), but for some reason they didn’t choose to do that here. Hopefully the photo tarp will either appear, or the refurbishment will be short.

As we reported in last week’s Disneyland Resort Photo Report and in Disneyland Court of Angels – A Court Like No Other,
Disney is set to close this quite corner of New Orleans Square in order to repurpose it as a new entrance for Club 33. Reports that the Court of Angels would close last week turned out to be erroneous, however we now expect its closure at any time.

Update: As of this morning, October 7th, the Court of Angels has closed

The L ‘Ornement Magique shop has already closed. The shop will be used as the new Club 33 entrance to the Court of Angels.

L ‘Ornement Magique is located at 29 Orleans Street, Club 33 was named for its address on 33 Royal Street – but maybe no one will notice?

Limited Time Magic – Chalk Art

Disney invited a few dozen artists to Downtown Disney this past weekend to help transform the sidewalks for the Limited Time Magic event, Chalk Art Festival. The event featured some incredible talent. Pieces represented Alice in Wonderland, Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo, Walt Disney and much more!

Here are some photos of the event:

2013 Gay Days

An estimated 30,000 guests descended upon the Disneyland Resort for the 2013 Gay Day celebration. Although not an “officially” sanctioned event, Disneyland did show some support with special merchandise and food offerings. The foods proved popular as by Sunday they had become difficult to find.

Disneyland also made a few red shirts, which organizers encouraged their attendees to wear, available with rainbow Mickey silhouettes. Also, rainbow cookies, cake, pins and other accessories were placed on store shelves throughout the Resort.
