The Market House featuring Starbucks
Disneyland reopened their premiere coffee location this past week on Main Street USA. The popular coffee spot underwent a six month renovation to convert the space into a much larger version of its former self as well as into the first Disneyland accessible Starbucks.
For the past 15 months guests of California Adventure have been able to get their Starbucks fix on Buena Vista Street at Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café. The Starbucks there was the first to open at a Disney theme park, and has sense become one of the most popular for the coffee giant.
In the case of the Disneyland location, the Market House was selected for the massive expansion, as was the neighboring Disneyana collectables shop. Instead of keeping with the Main Street USA turn-of-the-century theme, the Market House seems to have a more country feel, although in a modernized way. Upon entry guests find a large queue, which will undoubtably come in useful during the busy holiday season. Guests also find an assortment of bottled beverages and juices. Besides the usual generic Disney pastries and fruit yogurt cups, some of the popular Starbucks breakfast sandwiches are also available. Sadly missing from the menu is a selection of fresh sandwiches or other food items. It’s clear the Market House is primarily a coffee shop, which has been created for speedy Starbucks service.
There are essentially two counters which split the main line. On each side a Cast Member waits to take orders at one of three registers. From there guests move down the bar to receive their drink orders. In this spot Disney has staged an army of baristas to fill drink orders with multiple espresso machines, coffee pots and blenders. Each side also carries a separate theme. One a more farm industrial look and the other a country kitchen.
A back corner of the Market House offers very minimal seating, but it’s the Book Rest where guests will find a quite nook that is dripping with details. What use to be the front space to Disneyana, the Book Rest is a seating area filled with book shelves, dark woods, dim lighting and nicknacks. It is here where guests will find the potbelly stove, which now glows with warm illumination. The walls and shelves are filled with framed art, bookends and clocks.
