Haunted Mansion Holiday

This year is also the 13th year for the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Each year, Jack Skellington takes over the Haunted Mansion as Christmas and Halloween collide! For 2013, the Haunted Mansion Holiday will feature new special effects and a special celebration.

Brian Sandahl, art director for the Haunted Mansion Holiday, helped to develop new animation effects which will be applied to the Mansion’s stretching room when Jack Skellington makes his appearance to wish everyone “Happy Holidays”! As guests exit the room, another surprise awaits, Zero will come alive like never before on the hallway portraits.

“We’ve always switched out these portraits,” Brian told D23 in an interview found on their site, “so Jack Skellington changes into Sandy Claws as you are looking at them. Zero is in the portrait, too. But this year, Zero takes off and flies through all the portraits. He flies into the Jack-O-Lantern portrait, lights it up, and plays around with the scenes in the portraits. These two animation are really cool and we’ve never done animation effects in our 13-year history.”

The annual Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house will be the largest yet, measuring 8 feet wide and 13 feet tall! The gingerbread house will feature an animated Zero flying around the top, similar to years past.

In celebration of the 13th anniversary of Haunted Mansion Holiday, Disney will strategically place 13 themed collections of 13 objects around the Haunted Mansion. 13 candles on Madame Leota’s séance table and 13 tiles on the towering gingerbread house. The rest will be up to you to find!

All your favorites will return as well this year, including Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, Mickey’s Halloween Party, Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch, Pirates League, and a Dia de los Muertos display. Guests of the Mad T Party in Disney California Adventure will also be treated to a “Dead Man’s Party” featuring Halloween music and decor.

Halloween Time kicks off today, Friday, September 13th and runs though Thursday, October 31, 2013.
