Announced just moments ago at the conclusion of the Undiscovered Disneyland presentation, legendary Imagineer Tony Baxter will be honored this fall with a window on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland. Receiving a window on Main Street is one of the highest honors that Disney can bestow.
Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, took to Stage 23 in the surprise announcement on the first day of the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Staggs spoke highly of Tony Baxter, who recently reduced his role to advisor at Walt Disney Imagineering.
During the announcement, Tom Staggs said: “As you all know, this is the honor we reserve for those who have made an indelible mark on Disney parks and resorts, and Disneyland in particular, so we want an indelible tribute to you (speaking to Tony) there on Main Street where it all began”. “Tony it’s an honor for me to work with you, and I’m so thrilled you’ll be mentoring generations of Imagineers for years to come. I really want to thank you for all you’ve done for Disney Parks and Resorts, but most importantly because I know it’s mattered to you for years what you’ve done for all of our guests, thank you”.
Tony Baxter started his career at Disneyland as an Ice Cream scooper on Main Street 47 years ago.
Three audience members were randomly selected to attend the dedication ceremony this fall.
In response, Tony Baxter said, “… It felt like it went by in one minute while I was living it, instantly you go from an ice cream scooper to where I am now, how did that happen?”
