Welcome to the Disneyland Photo & News Report for July 29, 2013
Summer is in full swing at the Disneyland Resort and the seasonal crowds have definitely materialized. Despite being small and not quite unique, Limited Time Magic continues to host events each week. This past week saw “Christmas in July” with special treats and merchandise. For this week, the Disneyland Resort is brining back an ice cream treat which was “Limited” back in May during the 24-hour Monstrous Summer All-Nighter.
Steve Davidson, Vice President of Parades and Spectaculars at Walt Disney Immagineering, made a special announcement this week. Fitting with the “Christmas in July” Limited Time Magic celebration, Disney announced “World of Color – Winter Dreams”, a special holiday overlay of the popular night-time water and special effects spectacular at Disney California Adventure park.
The Ink and Paint Program has returned to Disneyland and features beautiful hand painted animation cels.
Disneyland Ink and Paint Program
Disneyland brought back some of the artists who were once part of the now removed-from-Disneyland Artisan Watch program. The Artisan Watches were hand painted, and assembled on Main Street up until earlier this year. Beginning July 20, 2013 the artists returned, now part of the “Disneyland Ink and Pain Program”. The first cel features the Main Street Train Station and conductor Mickey.
Here is a quick excerpt from the Disney Parks Blog:
Some of you had previously inquired about the artists who were once a part of the Artisan Watch program. Well, I’m very happy to say that for the past year they have been hard at work training day in and day out to master the technique of ink & paint.
Debuting for the first time on July 20 is a Main Street Train Station inspired cel featuring some of Disney’s most beloved characters. An exquisitely hand-painted Conductor Mickey (who is doing his best to keep the trains on track) will be accompanied by Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Goofy. Right on Time will be available in a variety of formats including: unframed, framed and framed with signed postcard.
For those of you planning to visit the Disneyland Resort on July 20, several of the Ink & Paint artists associated with this piece will be on hand for a special appearance and signing at the Disneyana Shop in Disneyland park from 9–11 a.m. These artists include: Eric Scales, Dave Smith, Charles Landholm, Todd Wiesenhutter and June Valentine Ruppe.
Pictured below is artist Charles Landholm, who took time to talk with me as I drooled over his beautiful work – what a great guy! I also can’t help but notice a slight resemblance to someone…
Big Thunder Mountain Refurbishment
Work is continuing on the nearly year long refurbishment on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. New tracks are visible, railing and rock work can be seen, and the buildings of Rainbow Ridge are looking fantastic.
The Jolly Trolley has returned to ToonTown after having disappeared a few weeks ago.
It looks like it has received some new paint on the benches and lower sections.
The counter area has seen better days.
Court of Angels
Now is the time to enjoy the beautiful and secluded Court of Angels in New Orleans Square.
This great corner of the park will soon be taken over by pirates for Halloween Time and then be transformed into a Holiday shop through the end of the year. If you find yourself in New Orleans Square in the next few weeks, take some time to walk through and enjoy this quite and beautiful corner of the park.
I’m not sure if these are new, but I noticed some chatter about these Indiana Jones tee shirts this past week.
Over on Main Street, work continues on the new Market House as it receives installation of the first Disneyland park Starbucks location.
You’re going to love this!
Molly the Messenger really liked my camera, and as a result, a ‘photo shoot’ of sorts happened on Buena Vista Street.
These are the things that makes Buena Vista Street such an amazing part of the Disneyland Resort.
Disneyland is adding to the list of entertainment events for this upcoming Holiday Season. World of Color, the night-time water, projection and special effects spectacular at Disney California Adventure park will receive a full Christmas makeover.
The new show called, “Winter Dreams” will be hosted by Olaf the snowman and will include scenes from the upcoming Disney animated feature, “Frozen” along with Disney classics such as “Bambi”, “Fantasia” and “Toy Story”. Winter Dreams will also include new special effects and water patterns.
Steve Davison, the creative director for the original “World of Color” show at Disney California Adventure is working on the Winter Dreams Holiday version of the extremely popular show. “I am so excited to be brining new magic to ‘World of Color’ this holiday season”, remarked Davison. “The brand-new show is filled with great music, new effects and, of course, all the magnificence of ‘World of Color’ fountain and projection system. It’s going to be a very powerful and amazing experience for guests of all ages”.
Out in Downtown Disney, a “Downtown Disney Live!” banner has been placed on the main stage.
Just remember who was “DisneylandLive” first!
That’s going to do it for this week’s update. You can see the past updates here.
See You At Disneyland!
