Disney Announces Monstrous Summer
Disney made a Monstrous announcement this week.
Disneyland will once again remain open for a 24 hour period this May as part of the Limited Time Magic “Monstrous Summer” promotion! Disneyland ran a similar promotion in February 2012 for leap year, dubbed “One More Disney Day“, but this time the promotion will also include Disney California Adventure park.
Guests can kick off “Monstrous Summer” on Memorial Weekend starting May 24, 2013. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure park will open at 6:00 a.m. and remain open until May 25, 2013 at 6:00 a.m.
The announcement was made during a media event at EPCOT using some impressive projection mapping technology on Spaceship Earth.
Both parks will have special entertainment during their 24-hour marathon opening.
At Disneyland and California Adventure park, guests can party in Tomorrowland with “Monsters University” and “TLT (Tomorrowland Terrace) Monstrous” Dance Club, which will include Star Wars characters. Mickey’s ToonTown at Disneyland will host a late-night Pajama Party. Guests will find live bands and dancing at the Royal Theatre in Fantasy Faire and special Monsters University photo opportunities at Disney California Adventure park.
Below is a photo of the backdrop which will be used for the Monsters University “Dorm” photo meet and greet location.
Merchandise has already been set up across from where the photo meet and greet will be located in Hollywood Land.
Blue Bayou Menu Refresh
Over in New Orleans Square, the unique Blue Bayou Restaurant received a menu refresh. Some of the current items received a tweak while a few new items were added as well.
Below you can find the new Lunch and Dinner menus.
Click them to view larger.
Main Street Starbucks
Construction is moving forward with the Main Street Starbucks location, however most of it is inside and not visible.
This week, Disney placed signs outside of the now closed Market House and Disneyana locations redirecting guests to other locations where they can find similar food and merchandise.
“May the Fourth Be With You”
Disney announced a small Limited Time Magic event for the unofficial Star Wars day, “May the 4th (be with you)”. It appears Walt Disney World is going to receive the best of this promotion with a dance party and characters riding Star Tours – The Adventures Continue randomly with guests. Here at Disneyland, we have only be promised special tee shirts and pins bearing the slogans “May the Fourth Be With You” and “Revenge of the Fifth”. These items will only be available on May 4, 2013.
Mickey and the Magical Map
Disney gave the media a small preview of the upcoming Fantasyland Theater stage show, Mickey and the Magical Map. For a complete breakdown and a first look at some of the show elements, head over to my column on MousePlanet.
Around the Resort
Walls were placed around the New Orleans Square fountain, near the Haunted Mansion, earlier this week. By the weekend the walls were down. I’m not completely sure what work was done here, but it appears large pool was either cleaned or resurfaced.
The Limited Time Magic “Earth Day” tart from last week
Work continues on the “it’s a small world” mall parade lighting and old Light Magic towers.
The old golden color scheme is out, in favor of a new green.
The Mickey and Friends, Downtown Disney tram drop off area received a bit of tweak last week. A van drop off and pick up area was added between the two trams.
That’s going to do it for this week’s update. You can see the past updates here.
See You At Disneyland!
