Welcome back to Disneyland!
Disneyland Photo and News Report for March 25, 2013.
This week I headed out to Disney California Adventure just as the sun came out for the Annual Passholder early entry. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but if you haven’t taken advantage of the AP early entry, and you have the means to do, so you’re missing out. The perk is available Saturdays at California Adventure and Sundays at Disneyland through April 14, 2013 and allows for one hour early entry.
Guests hunted for Easter Eggs hidden throughout Disney California Adventure park this past week. If you missed out, don’t worry, a new Easter event takes its place this week! Spring is in full bloom and we’ll take a look around the parks at some of the beautiful trees and flowers. The Main Street Train Station has reopened early, and we have some really big news about Starbucks and Main Street changes which will take effect in the next few weeks!
But first a word from Touring Plans on this week’s Disneyland crowd predictions:
This week will be one of Disneyland’s busiest of the year. TouringPlans.com can help you navigate the parks with our per-park Crowd Calendar, Lines – Mobile Wait Times App that gives access to current and estimated wait times for attractions, and Touring Plans detailing the best plan of attack for hitting the attractions. Now more than ever, it’s a good time to subscribe to TouringPlans.com to plan your strategy to avoid the crowds!
Below are the predicted resort-wide crowd numbers for select days generated by the TouringPlans professional statisticians as measured for the upcoming week. For the access to the full year and per-park crowd level predictions, visit our Crowd Calendar.

- Annual Pass blackouts in effect all week.
- Tuesday is the best day to visit Disneyland
- Fastpass tickets for Radiator Springs Racers usually “sell out” within the first hour of DCA’s regular park hours.
See Disneyland crowds for the next 365 days.
Do more. Wait less.
Spring is in full swing at the Disneyland Resort, the weather is getting warmer, the flowers and trees are in bloom and the Spring Break crowds are here! Just take a look at those Touring Plans predictions above. The Resort is predicted to hit a 10/10 on Wednesday and Thursday. This weekend isn’t going to be any better either. If you can, this may be a good week to avoid the Disneyland Resort.
But there are a few special events taking place for the “Spring Fling”, including Easter Bunny appearances on Main Street. We’ve also learned that Roger Rabbit will be appearing throughout the day!
Spring is probably one of the most photogenic times of year at Disneyland!
Main Street Train Station
The Disneyland Main Street Train Station reopened a bit early. The station underwent an extensive, multi-month, refurbishment and looks beautiful.
Big Changes Coming to Main Street
Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland is about to undergo some major changes. The Market House will close April 15, 2013 (date according to MousePlanet) to under go a massive transformation. When the Market House reopens in the fall of 2013 it will take up its current space as well as the space currently occupied by the Disneyana collectibles store. But the biggest change: for the first time, Starbucks Coffee will be served at Disneyland park.
Disney has confirmed that the Market House will retain its current general store theme, which includes keeping the party line phones, stove and checkers board. Disneyana is going to move down the street to the Bank of Main Street, which currently houses the Disney Gallery. The Disney Gallery and Disneyana will share the space.
Starbucks opening at Disneyland this Fall; Disneyana moving
The second Disneyland Resort Starbucks location is set to open on Main Street U.S.A. later this year. The Market House, currently a coffee shop which is themed to a turn-of-the-century general store, along with the neighboring Disneyana collectibles shop, will close next month to receive a complete renovation.
When the new Market House reopens in the Fall of 2013 the location will serve Starbucks coffee and a special selection of Disney pastries.
Disneyana will move to a new home inside the Bank of Main Street building. A few years ago, the Disney Gallery moved into this space and has featured exhibits and artwork similar to what Disneyana sells. It has been a bit redundant having both Disneyana and the Disney Gallery on Main Street since the Disney Gallery was removed from its original location above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in 2007. The new Disneyana location will share space with the Disney Gallery, which will continue to showcase Disney art exhibits and merchandise. Disney has also confirmed that a new exhibit is coming to the Disney Gallery soon, and will feature art inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer.
The Market House menu will include Starbuck coffee when the location reopens in the fall of 2013.
The coffee shop will retain the turn-of-the-century general store theme.
Disneyana will soon share space with the Disney Gallery. Both will be located inside the Bank of Main Street building.
Disneyana will take up residence in the front room.
The Disney Gallery will continue to showcase exhibits in the rear room.
The next exhibit will feature the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.
Last week, guests of Disney California Adventure participated in a park-wide Easter egg hunt. The event encouraged guests to locate character themed eggs, then return their completed map for a prize.
Can you find the egg?
Some new merchandise appeared in Cars Land over the past few weeks, including some very nice tee shirts and a “Red the the Rescue” fire fighter helmet. The helmet is a reference to a street show which was announced nearly a year ago for Cars Land but was never implemented. It’s interesting that the merchandise has shown up. It could mean the show may start soon, or it could be that the merchandise was created a year ago and Disney just wants to unload it.
I’m not sure how long this cooler has been here on the Curious front porch, but it seems like a nice touch.
A spare tire – pun intended – has been placed in the queue of Luigi’s Flying Tires. The tire has a sign informing guests NOT to step on the tire portion of the ride vehicle. I also noticed a Cast Member telling guests in line the same. It seems Disney may be having a problem with guests stepping on the wrong part of the tire. I can see where this could be a safety issue as it can easily cause a fall when the tire collapses under foot.
Around the Resort
New characters from Disney Junior shows “Doc McStuffins” and “Sofia the First” have debuted inside the Disney Theater during Disney Junior – Live on Stage! The show is aimed directly at younger guests, and also contains stories from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates”.
Last week Guests participated in the park wide egg hunt we told you about earlier. This week Guests at California Adventure can participate in the Wilderness Explorer Egg Hunt throughout the “Redwood Creek Challenge Trail”.
If you’re an Annual Passholder, you can get exclusive access to the egg hunt during the first hour of park opening. Just show your AP to the Cast Member at the entrance to the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.
The arch is nearly re-installed at Coke Corner / Refreshment Corner on Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A.
The Mark Twain remains under refurbishment through April 17, 2013.
What can be seen is looking very fresh and nice.
The Fantasyland Theater continues to receive work ahead of the May 25, 2013 opening of “Mickey and the Magical Map” stage show.
It’s tough to make out, but the wooden looking structure seen beyond the blurry trees is the top of the “Magical Map” screen.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad remains closed for the massive refurbishment and track placement.
The popular attraction will reopen October 31, 2013.
The hill seen below is where the track was once located. This is the hill where the train emerges from the “earthquake” seen.
Remember those popular “Darth Vader Goes to Disneyland” commercials which first released ahead of the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue reopening? It seems Disney has screen captured two scenes and placed them on tee shirts.
The shirts are available at the Star Trader.
The “Off Road” game has been replaced with “Zaxxon”.
That’s going to do it for this week’s update. You can see the past updates here.
See You At Disneyland!
