True Love was in the air this past week at the Disneyland Resort. The Limited Time Magic Valentines Day event was celebrated, mostly at Disneyland, with banners, photo opportunities and special dining events. Presidents Day weekend brought large crowds to the resort, and a new Limited Time Magic event was announced.
A new 4D preview for OZ The Great and Powerful has opened at Disney California Adventure and two attractions have reopened following refurbishments.
But first a word from Touring Plans on this week’s Disneyland crowd predictions:

Do more. Wait less.
The Main Street Train Station remains covered for its extensive refurbishment.
True Love Week
The Limited Time Magic event, True Love Week, was celebrated at Disneyland this past week. The Valentines Day event was a “plussed” up version of celebrations seen in years past. The event was centered on creating romantic photo settings, castle lighting and dining opportunities at various Disneyland Resort restaurants.
Heart decor, similar to what has been seen in past years, was present in Town Square
A large floral heart created a photo opportunity for couples in Town Square
Snow White’s Wishing Well was decorated with floral arrangements.
Disney released a promotional image of the ‘True Love’ lighting effect for Sleeping Beauty Castle. Sadly, the effects only took place twice during a two-minute mini-show. Below you can see the Disney promotional image and a separate image of how the castle looked the remainder of the time.
Fantasy Faire Construction Update
Fantasy Faire is only a few weeks from opening, and each day the area becomes much more colorful. This past week saw the installation of pink and purple spires. The area is very bright, and would stand out significantly next to Sleeping Beauty Castle if it were not for the mature trees in the area. Still, there is no doubt this new princess meet-and-greet location is marketed directly at girls, both young and young at heart.
The Tangled Tower maypole was installed this past week and features some detailed work.
Notice the small figure of Rapunzel in the tower.
The Laughing Place
Splash Mountain reopened this past weekend to large Presidents Day weekend crowds and 80 degree temperatures. The attraction looks fresh, clean and – for the first time in a while – all the animatronics were operating. Only the on-ride photo preview was non-operational. Although this feature hasn’t worked correctly in years, it would have been nice to see it either repaired or removed.
Fantasyland’s Mad Tea Party also reopened this weekend.
The extensive Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment continues with little progress noticeable from over the construction walls. Although it does appear some sections of track have been removed.
‘OZ The Great and Powerful’ 4D Preview
Annual Passholders were amongst the first to experience a new 4D sneak peek for the upcoming Disney release, OZ The Great and Powerful. The 8-minute preview features in-theater special effects such as lighting and wind. The sneak peek showcases one of the more dramatic scenes in the film and may be frightening to children who are sensitive to loud noise and flashing lights. The preview is shown daily in the Muppet Vision 3D building at Disney California Adventure through March 31, 2013.
As part of the OZ marketing promotion, special food and drinks are available at Award Wieners.
‘The Journey to OZ Balloon Tour’ also stopped off at the Disneyland Resort this past weekend. The hot air balloon was launched from the Esplanade and will be making appearances at Daytona International Speedway on February 20th and in New York’s Central Park on March 5th and 6th.
OZ the Great and Powerful hit’s theaters on March 8, 2013
Limited Time Magic Presents, Voices of Liberty: Presidential Celebration
Disneyland has announced the next Limited Time Magic event, Voices of Liberty: Presidential Celebration.
Voices of Liberty, the a cappella group, is honoring Presidents Day for a limited time with musical performances at the Main Street Opera House at Disneyland Park. In this special presidential show—a Limited Time Magic experience—the Voices of Liberty will bring to life some inspirational moments from our nation’s history with impeccable 8-part harmonies accompanied by memorable quotes from American Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. It’s an a cappella hail to the chiefs of our country!
The event will take place February 18 & 19 and again February 22 – 24, 2013 in the Main Street Opera House at Disneyland.

New coffee mugs sporting some neon signage have appeared at Ramone’s in Cars Land
