In the the on-going story of the ‘little Anaheim theme park that could’, Disney California Adventure park will be staying open until mid-night every Friday during the month of October 2012. This would be absolutely unheard of a few years ago, as the struggling neighbor to Disneyland would typically close hours prior.
True, the extended Disney California Adventure park hours are due to the early 7 p.m. closures of Disneyland each of those nights to host Mickey’s Halloween Party, but it was only a few years ago that the after-hours Halloween parties were hosted at Disney California Adventure in an effort to draw guests into the struggling park. It wasn’t until DCA went into construction overdrive in 2010 that the special ticketed events were moved to Disneyland.
Disney California Adventure has seen a major resurgence in attendance since its June 2012 relaunch and opening of Buena Vista Street and Cars Land. In fact, Disney California Adventure park was recently selected as the “2012 Park of the Year” by Amusement Today. Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of the Walt Disney Company also recently reported that park attendance for Disney California Adventure was up to record levels during the April 1, 2012 – June 30, 2012 quarter. Prior to that quarter, the park drew around 25 percent of the resort traffic, which is now reported at nearly half. It is also important to remember that the quarter which saw this extreme growth in attendance represented only 15 days of the Disney California Adventure re-launch and that of the Buena Vista Street and Cars Land openings.
