Last Dance for Carnation Plaza Gardens

This past weekend saw the last of the decades old, Jump, Jive and Boogie Swing Parties at the Carnation Plaza Gardens.

The area closed this morning and will soon be transformed into the Princess Fantasy Faire

The Carnation Plaza Gardens was packed all night, requiring crowd control, and the dancing only stopped for the fireworks.

Stan Freese, the Director of Talent Casting and Booking for the Disneyland Resort and world renowned tuba soloist, took to the stage in the middle of the evening to encourage the swing dance community to continue the tradition when the event moves out to Downtown Disney next week.  The swing dancing will return to this historic location next year, although the area will look very different as the Princess Fantasy Faire.

Disney announced the reopening of the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor, the Penny Arcade and the Candy Palace this past week will take place tomorrow, May 2nd.

Disneyland’s Candy Palace, Gibson Girl and Penny Arcade reopening May 2nd

For nearly four months, the north-west side of Disneyland’s Main Street USA has been undergoing a major refurbishment.  In January everything from Carnation Cafe to Refreshment Corner closed to undergo improvements, enhancements and maintenance.  Refreshment Corner has since reopened, however the majority of the block has remained closed.

Disneyland announced that the Candy Palace, Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and the Penny Arcade will reopen next week, on May 2, 2012.  The visual kitchen at the Candy Palace, a favorite place for guests to watch Disney confections come to life has been expanded.  The expansion will help more guests view the candy making process, which should be especially helpful during the busy Holiday season when guests line up along the glass windows to catch a glimpse of the Disneyland candy makers creating hand made candy canes.

Further south, the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor has also been expanded to accommodate more guests.  Wait times should be greatly decreased with the expanded counter space and an increased number of registers.  Disneyland has also added a few items to the official menu at the popular ice cream parlor.  A traditional root beer float, Coca-Cola floats and Orange floats will appear on the menu when the shop reopens.

The Blue Ribbon Bakery / Carnation Cafe expansion will continue May 2nd, as the construction is much more extensive.  The Carnation Cafe, a popular outdoor dining restaurant is reclaiming some indoor seating from the Blue Ribbon Bakery.  The bakery and coffee shop is to remain, although smaller, and may become the Starbucks location inside of Disneyland this summer.

The Penny Arcade will reopen alongside the Candy Palace and the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor this May 2, 2012.
