The Blue Sky Cellar, a preview center for Disney Parks projects at Disney California Adventure park, has once again closed to receive an update.
The Blue Sky Cellar was created to showcase the Disney California Adventure expansion, which started in 2007. Since then the exhibits have been changed routinely to coincide with the next major project at the resort.
Currently the Blue Sky Cellar features elements for Buena Vista Street, the new 1930’s erra entrance ‘land’ for Disney California Adventure park, which is expected to open this June.
As of today the Blue Sky Cellar has closed to receive another update. When the exhibit opens back up on leap day, February 29, 2012 it will feature the nearby Cars Land project. Opening in June of of this year, Cars Land will be like stepping into Radiator Springs from the Disney/ Pixar movie Cars.
This is expected to be the last update to the Blue Sky Cellar for the major California Adventure makeover. After the makeover is completed this summer, the Blue Sky Cellar will continue to feature Disney Resort projects from around the world.
UPDATE 2/23: The Disney Parks Blog has confirmed some details that will be added to the Blue Sky Cellar’s Cars Land exhibit. Appropriately dubbed, “The Road to Cars Land”, new items will feature a model of the 12 acre ‘land’, maquettes of the new ride vehicles as well as the typical sketches and early concept art for Cars Land. A shovel, signed by John Lasseter from the 2009 ground-breaking ceremony will be on display, and a new Walt Disney Imagineering video featuring Lasseter, Cars Land design teams, architects and landscapers will also be part of the new display when the Blue Sky Cellar reopens next Wednesday at Disney California Adventure park.
