Disneyland Resort Photo Report for January 9, 2012.
Welcome Back to the Disneyland Resort
In this week’s update we spend more time back at Disneyland than California Adventure! With the Holiday season winding down and the refurbishments starting back up, a lot will be happening over at Disneyland as well as California Adventure. The next six months will see some major improvements on Main Street USA, starting this past week with the opening of the Jolly Holiday Bakery. A large portion of Main Street is now closed off and the first new music loop for Main Street in 20 years debuted this morning.
With the end of the holiday season comes reduced park operating hours, closed attractions for refurbishments and reduced crowd sizes! (just look at those Touring Plans numbers below!) Speaking of attraction refurbishments, we have a big one to tell you about…but more on that in a bit.
Crowds should be light this week, with the exception of the weekend. TouringPlans.com can help you navigate the parks with our per-park Crowd Calendar, Lines – Mobile Wait Times App that gives access to current and estimated wait times for attractions, and Touring Plans detailing the best plan of attack for hitting the attractions. Now more than ever, it’s a good time to subscribe to TouringPlans.com to plan your strategy to avoid the crowds!
Below are the predicted resort-wide crowd numbers for select days generated by the TouringPlans professional statisticians as measured for the upcoming week. For the access to the full year and per-park crowd level predictions, visit our Crowd Calendar.

Here are some quick-hit notes that we hope you’ll find helpful as you prepare your visits for the week:
- Partial block outs all weekend.
- Tuesday through Thursday Disneyland will be a 1.1.
- The MLK Day Holiday should make this weekend slightly busier than normal for a January weekend.
Jolly Holiday Bakery
The newest restaurant to open on Disneyland’s Main Street USA is the Jolly Holiday Bakery. The official opening was this past Saturday, January 7, 2012, however the restaurant physically opened on Thursday after a Cast Member preview on Wednesday.
Hard to believe this was a wasted away space used for Annual Passholder processing.
The interior is beautiful and well done in a minimalist sort of way. The display cabinets are much better done than the ones from the Blue Ribbon Bakery, there are small references to Marry Poppins, but nothing that really jumps out at you.
“Practically Perfect in Every Way“
Mary Poppins inspired items in glass cabinets greet guests as they stand in line.
Beautiful penguin stained glass windows on the patio area.
Main Street USA
The Carnation Cafe, Blue Ribbon Bakery, Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor, Penny Arcade, Candy Palace and Coke Corner have all closed for refurbishment.
This is the entire north – west block of Main Street.
The Carnation Cafe will reopen later this year taking over the Blue Ribbon Bakery to add much needed indoor seating. Gibson Girl is expanding and Candy Palace is expanding it’s kitchen. We expect these refurbishments to last until late Spring.
Blue Ribbon Bakery
With the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor closed, the Main Street Cone Shop is your place for ice cream.
And the line was long this warm weekend.
And these are not the only changes coming to Main Street!
Starting on Monday, January 9th, something will be a bit different on Disneyland’s Main Street USA. For the first time in 20 years, Main Street will have a new music loop.
