Rumors have been circulating for some time now about Disney California Adventure replacing the now vacant Mission Tortilla Factory with a Ghirardelli sponsored facility, and today Disney confirmed the rumor.
It will not be a “factory” such as the Mission Tortilla facility was, but instead a Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop.  When California Adventure opened in 2001, the Mission Tortilla Factory provided tours which showcased how tortilla’s are made and they also provided samples to each guest.  If you visited on your birthday you would receive an entire bag of fresh tortillas!  Keeping with this tradition, each guest will receive a complimentary sample of Ghirardelli’s signature chocolate squares!

In a blog post, Disney stated that it will be similar to a location at Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney.

The new Ghirardelli soda fountain and chocolate shop will feature hot fudge sundaes as well as their other “famous products” and is expected to open in”late spring 2012″.  This will place the opening very close to the opening of the nearby Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and relaunch of Disney California Adventure, which is expected to occur around the same time!
