Ground was broken on Cars Land on July 8, 2009, but the vast majority of vertical construction has been accomplished this year. We have seen major progress, especially in the last few months. It’s been an amazing project to watch, and with a little less than 6 months left before the projected opening, Cars Land is coming along nicely.
The largest artificial rock formation that Disney has ever built in America, Cadillac Range is the 125 foot backdrop of the 12 acre Cars Land.
In February the steel frame of Cadillac Range was “topped out”.
By March, rock work could be seen.
Construction on the rock work moved from west to east (right to left in the pictures) in different stages. From the steal frames to the mesh, rock work, and paint. The project was like a wave rippling along Cadillac Range.
Workers on the massive scaffolding appear very tinny. (Note Luigi’s Casa Della Tires below)
By June the entire structure was filled in and paint began to appear.
In August the scaffolding began to disappear.
