Captain EO launch day has come and gone!  DLL started to receive reports of a few people lining up as early as before midnight.  Yes, you read that right, BEFORE midnight.  At the time of the gates opening, there was approximately 200 guests standing in line outside of Disneyland specifically for Captain EO.  But what those who decided to camp out didn’t realize is that Disneyland had invited around 500 “Michael Jackson Fans” to view the show ahead of the campers.  Not to mention the media that was let in ahead of the guests as well.  Then when the gates opened up, ALL guests were let in at the same time.  So a few minutes after the parked opened everybody, campers and all, started to make their way to Captain EO.  The wait time shot up to 45 minutes only 30 minutes after the park had opened.

But around noon the wait time was down to 20 minutes, or the equivilant of one show run!  Some guests that showed up after noon were able to see it multiple times.  @boy33 on twitter reported watching the MJ space adventure 4 times before the park closed.  So the gigantic EO crowds didn’t materialize as feared today, but it’s also a Tuesday.  This weekend might be a different story when you have people that were not willing to skip work or school today, show up in Anaheim to watch EO save the world.

One question does ring in my head today…If Disneyland, simply bringing back an old attraction as a “Tribute” is able to generate so much buzz and hype here in the cyber world and people are willing to camp out 10 hours prior to park opening to see it, then when World of Color opens in a few months the Disneyland Resort is in for a huge logistical nightmare when close to a million annual passholders and daily ticket holders flock to California Adventure.  It will prove to be a crazy summer season at best!
